ADHD Counselling

ADHD Counselling for a More Balanced Life

Living with ADHD, in a Neurotypical world,  can feel overwhelming. Whether you are  diagnosed or  self-diagnosed , curious, not wanting a diagnosis or label, or supporting someone , you are welcome to explore what this means to you or them.  Having studied ADHD for my Masters dissertation, as well as being diagnosed myself, I appreciate how difficult it can be sometimes to find a therapist who  works in an affirming way. It can take time to explore what ADHD looks like for you and how it impacts your life and relationships. There can be joy and sadness, new found confidence, deep grief. There is no one way to respond.

How ADHD Counselling Can Help

I offer focused  ADHD counselling for adults looking to better understand their challenges and to appreciate their strengths.  My approach is empathetic, compassionate , and tailored to your unique needs.

A Supportive and Personalised Approach

  1. Personalised Support: By exploring your emotions, thoughts, and behavioural patterns, , including those related to executive functioning ,we can identify your specific needs. Once we understand those needs, we can discuss potential ways to meet them, whether through self-advocacy or support from others. If certain needs cannot be met, we will acknowledge that reality and explore alternative paths forward.
  1. Strengths-Based Perspective: I focus on identifying and amplifying your strengths, helping you harness your creativity, energy, and unique problem-solving abilities.
  1. Holistic Understanding: My approach takes into account not only the traits associated with ADHD but also the environmental, social, and emotional factors that influence your daily life. Together, we will develop a comprehensive understanding of your experiences.
  1. Empowerment Through Education: If you wish, we can explore resources and information about ADHD, helping you better understand your brain and how it functions. Knowledge is a powerful tool for navigating the challenges you encounter.
  1. Collaboration: Therapy is a partnership. We will work together to co-create coping strategies that seamlessly integrate into your life, allowing you to thrive in ways that feel authentic to you.

Neurodiversity-Affirming and Strength-Based

I provide a neurodiversity-affirming counselling service that celebrates your unique brain wiring. Rather than trying to “fix” you, our work will focus on understanding how your mind, nervous system and energy levels work, and finding ways to harness your unique strengths. our ADHD journey will be unique, filled with both challenges and strengths. My approach is rooted in a neurodivergent-affirming paradigm, where your individuality is celebrated, and your experiences are valued. Additionally, my practice is grounded in compassion and self-compassion, recognising the importance of treating yourself with kindness as you navigate your experiences. If you are newly diagnosed or have recently identified as having ADHD, you may find yourself adjusting and viewing the past and future through a new lens. There is also likely to be overlap with other people’s experiences of ADHD, and I keep abreast of current research, allowing evidence-based findings to guide my practice as we explore your own experiences.
